about me

I started out in Wisconsin as one of nine kids and have lived in Arizona for the most part. My interest in performing came early through the piano, tuba, guitar, singing, acting, and dancing. Most recently, I've been music directing and playing for local theaters and recording several scores for shows.

Aside from music, I tend to be active in a few other areas.

Photography and Graphic Design

I work as a graphic designer and have created marketing materials for the speaking industry ranging from business cards to websites, posters, and magazine ads. The photo to the left is from a photography/running trip to San Diego and the ad to the right for US Airways' in-flight magazine.

Running, Hiking & Biking

Running became a healthy passion several years ago for me. I've run in about 120 races including 15 marathons. Lately mountain running has been added to the schedule with Camelback Mountain being the weekly favorite. Biking is my newest thing I'm loving that so far. No major falls.

Ballroom Dancing

Dancing isn't just for your grandparents anymore — there are plenty of younger kids who seek out ballroom dancing several nights a week. I took a couple years of private lessons and have performed several routines with dance partners and formation teams.

Rental Investing & Landlording

Just before the housing collapse I bought a few properties and I regularly spend quite a bit of time running the show behind keeping them and their tenants happy. That's the goal anyway.

Musical Directing

Usually this function consists of accompanying singers and helping with notes and technique. That's kind of what I do but I always try to figure out the best way to get the best out of myself and those I perform with, which sometimes includes just laying low and allowing things to evolve on their own. Every gig is different but it's always fun to figure out the common threads. I've worked with Is What It Is Theater, ASU West, Voice Institute, Fountain Hills Theater, Copperstate Theater, Tempe Little Theater, Ahwatukee Theater, and some others. Currently I'm recording a couple scores for shows.
